Well you’ve probably noticed that I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus. The reason is that I’ve been having some breakthroughs on the nature of the law of attraction. Not different than what I’ve said before, but just more than. And when I go through such breakthroughs, I need time to transition and let everything settle in, before I can write again.
So here we are. Things are more or less settled, and I’m ready to come back with another post.
Today I’m discussing how you get to your manifestation.
Well okay, that sounds like what I always discuss, I know. But today I’m discussing it in terms of something I call the “thought highway”.
Specifically, it’s how to navigate the best, fastest, and most effortless route to your goals, in a way that is simple, and which you can begin implementing immediately.
Sounds fun, right?
What Is the Thought Highway?
Well, in general terms, a thought highway is a term I use to indicate the path you’re taking towards some manifestation.
It’s the path from a mere vibration, to putting greater and greater focus on that vibration, until finally it manifests in outer reality.
If you’re on a highway headed in a particular direction, you see lots of signs telling you the destinations that are coming up. There’s no surprise that you’ve gotten on one highway, and ended up somewhere completely different—at least not if you’re paying attention.
And in the same way, there are many thought highways—to abundance, to lack, to love, to loneliness, to health, to sickness, and everything in between.
Whatever manifestations you see in your life right now, you followed a clearly defined thought highway that brought that manifestation to you, whether or not it was wanted.
You somehow started resonating at a vibration that was a match to the essence of that manifestation, and you focused on it, causing it to grow more and more until it entered your reality.
There were hundreds of signs telling you the direction you were headed in, but sometimes we don’t read the signs.
For instance, if you’re experiencing lack, you had to have first put your focus on lack somehow, making you a match to that vibration. Then you kept giving it your attention, allowing it to grow more and more. It showed up as fear, as “what ifs”, as unexpected bills—things that progressively hurt more and more.
There were countless signs along the way. But when you’re not deliberate with your thoughts, or when you don’t know that you create your own reality, you can easily miss these signs, or interpret them wrongly.
So the reason I’m writing this is to show you firstly what thought highways you’ve been traveling, and if any of those are undesirable to you, then how to deliberately and intentionally get onto a new thought highway, headed in the direction you want to go.
Which Thought Highways Have You Been Traveling?
So go ahead and look at what’s going on in life, both wanted and unwanted.
I suggest looking at both the wanted and unwanted, as it can be really easy to just look at what we’re getting wrong. But it’s helpful to also look at what we’re getting right already.
Every situation has in it the wanted and the unwanted. There is no situation in the world that is 100% wanted, nor 100% unwanted.
So look at your financial situation. How are you doing financially?
Perhaps things aren’t as easy as you’d like. Perhaps you’d like a bit more ease around money, or a bit more freedom. Perhaps you don’t like your job.
But then also look at the wanted. You have enough to feed yourself and your family (if applicable) every day. You do have some nice things, such as the computer, phone, or tablet you’re reading this post on. 🙂 You very probably have an internet connection, and you probably have cable, unless you’ve chosen not to. You also very likely have electricity, and a furnace to keep you warm.
So there you go: some wanted, and some unwanted. We’re not so used to finding positive things in a situation we may not be very happy with.
If you catch yourself saying, “yeah, but…” after any of the positive things above, stop yourself. Don’t make excuses why the wanted things really aren’t so positive. That just keeps you going down the negative thought highway towards greater lack.
Do this same exercise for every area of life, finding both the wanted and unwanted that you have manifested.
I’ll do one more for relationships since I know a lot of my readers are working on manifesting relationships.
So for the unwanted, perhaps you want to find that ideal partner, whom you just haven’t found yet. Or perhaps there’s a specific person you’re interested in, but they don’t seem to be reciprocating. Perhaps you feel alone, especially right now over the holidays.
But once again, there is always wanted. If you have someone you’re interested in, that’s a huge positive. It means that at least you are partially aligned. You likely at least have some friends and family you can go to for companionship. There’s probably at least one or two people in your life who really do understand you and love you for who you are.
Again if you find yourself saying “yeah but…” to any of the positives, simply Catch yourself and let it stand as-is.
So again, do this for every area of life. Money, relationships, career, your business if you’re self-employed, health, and simply the day-to-day situations you find yourself in.
And recognize that these are the things that you have manifested, whether intentionally or otherwise. You are at the center of all this, and you are the creator of it all.
Turning the Unwanted into New Desires
Now, very likely you found a good bit that is unwanted.
If you didn’t, then you’re deluding yourself. I know some people like to pretend all is positive, when it’s really not, but that’s not what is called for here, nor is that helpful. It’s one thing to genuinely feel positive about what’s going on in life, but often some people can paint a pretty picture about something that they really don’t feel so positive about, and so are just fooling themselves. But, it is impossible to fool the Universe. It always knows what you are really feeling.
So once you have taken a good look at both the wanted and the unwanted of your life, you have a better idea firstly of what you’ve created already, and secondly of what you’d like to create now. Seeing the things you don’t like in life will inspire you to want greater things, and that is good.
So right now you should have a list of wanted, and a list of unwanted, for every situation.
But I encourage you to look at each unwanted situation, and generate from that a new desire.
You can write all this down if you prefer, in three separate columns: Wanted, Unwanted, and Desired.
For instance, if you found that you don’t have enough money to go on that trip you’d like to go on, then under desired, you can write, “I want to go on a trip to…” and specify the destination.
Or if you feel overwhelmed by bills, then turn that into something like, “I want greater financial freedom, and the ability to pay all my bills easily.”
Every item in the “Desired” column should be focusing on the positive of what you want, not on the negative of what you’ve already created. This is turning the negative into the positive.
And don’t worry if these things seem impossible to you right now. That doesn’t really matter. What matters is that you are generating new desires out of what you don’t like in life.
You can do this even after creating this list. When you come across something new you don’t like in life, you can say to yourself, “What desire can I generate out of this unwanted situation?” Then think of what you want, in terms of the positive, just as we did above.
For example, if you have a boss that is annoying you, you can change it to a desire that says, “I want a boss that is supportive of me.”
Or, if you’re self-employed, and a client didn’t show up for a session, you can think, “I want clients who are responsible and respect my time.”
You’ll see below more of why this is useful, but even just for now, can you see how the desired statement feels better than, “my boss is so annoying,” or “my client is so rude for not showing up”?
Following a New Thought Highway
When you get a map, you need two things: an awareness of where you are now, and of where you want to be.
A GPS only requires you to give the latter, because it already knows where you are. But still, without the awareness of where you are, you can’t get anywhere.
So the above exercise allowed you to find out both: where you are now (the wanted and unwanted columns), and also where you want to be (the desired column).
Now the only work that remains to be done is to connect the two: that is, to travel the path to the wanted destination.
Luckily for us, this process is effortless, and in reality there’s not much you need to do at all. You don’t need to act, unless you feel inspired to. You don’t need to put in a lot of hard work.
You only need to shift your focus.
Now in this conversation I’m going to use the word “gap” to describe the difference between where you are and where you want to be (i.e., the unwanted column vs. the desired column).
You can’t jump that gap all in one go, just as you can’t drive to your destination in an instant. It’s a process.
That process of bridging that gap is what I’m calling the thought highway.
It’s simply a process of being picky with your thoughts—of choosing which thoughts you will pay attention to, and which you won’t.
For those parts of your experience that are unwanted, you’ve been giving attention to the thoughts that let you know how undesirable this experience is. And of course the more you give attention to those thoughts, the more they attract into your reality situations that feel exactly the same.
So we want to turn that around. You’ve been on a thought highway to the unwanted, and we want to get you turned around and headed on a thought highway to the wanted.
1. Make Peace with Where You Are
The first thing you need to do is simply to accept where you are.
Going back to the driving analogy, you can’t drive somewhere if you won’t accept that you’re not there yet. If you want to drive to the store, being upset at yourself for not being at the store yet, when you’ve not even gotten into the car, doesn’t make any sense.
So the first thing to do is to sit back and say, “Okay, this is where I am. I have to start somewhere, and this is where I’m starting.”
If you have any disapproval of your situation at all, you are pushing against it, and therefore holding it in existence.
You just can’t get to somewhere new if you are constantly thinking about how much you dislike where you are now.
So when I say to make peace with where you are, I mean to totally and unconditionally accept it. Anything else will just cause you to sabotage the whole thing.
You should immediately feel some relief as you make peace with where you are, because pushing against what is is stressful. As Byron Katie likes to say, “When I argue with reality, I lose—but only 100% of the time.”
Some people like to pretend they are somewhere they’re not, because it’s too painful to admit where they are. But this simply isn’t useful. Look at where you are now, and totally accept it. Only then can you create something different.
2. Discover the Goal Seed
Now, excuse my mixing of metaphors for a moment, but I often say that every goal has a goal seed. I used to call this the vibrational essence of the goal, which also works. But I like the term “goal seed” because it’s just such a perfect metaphor.
A seed is imprinted with the pattern of the plant it will grow into. As the seed is nurtured and cared for, it sprouts and grows into that plant over time.
It can’t grow instantaneously, because it’s a process. But it will grow in time, so you take care of it throughout the whole process of growing. You don’t wonder why it’s still a seed after only an hour. You know that it takes time.
And so your goal—everything you wrote in the desired column—is the same. It has a seed, which, once tended and cared for, will sprout into the goal that you want.
How do you find that goal seed?
You find it by asking a simple question: “Why do I want this goal?”
You already know what you want. You don’t know the how yet, because it’s too early for that, and that’s not your job. You may have an idea of the when, but again it’s not good to get too specific about that too soon.
But the why: that is where all the power is.
The why contains the emotional core of the goal. And the emotion is just another way of saying the vibration of that goal.
When you say you want money, the why might be because you want freedom. It might be because you want to have fun. You want to enjoy life. You can feel those emotions.
But if you complain about how you don’t have enough money now, and life is so unfair, and it’s so hard to get money… well, does that feel like the same emotions?
You must know that if you’re focusing on that, which is obviously different than the emotion of why you want that money, the vibrations differ and therefore you certainly won’t get it.
Instead you’ll get lots of lack. 🙂
But this why, these emotions, are an easy place to start. You can focus on the feeling of freedom, of fun, of joy, without much if any backlash from your resistance.
3. Close the Gap
So remember, step 1 is to make peace with where you are—to totally and completely accept reality for what it is.
Step 2 is to discover the goal seed—the vibrational essence of what you want—by asking why you want this goal, and getting those positive emotions in response.
Now, step 3 is to travel the thought highway to your goal.
I know, I know. I’ve been spending this whole post in preparation for the actual step of traveling the thought highway to your goal. But the preparation was vital, as you can hopefully see.
Without knowing where you are, and where you want to be, you don’t know which thought highway to travel. And without knowing the vibrational essence, or the goal seed, you don’t have a means of getting there. That vibrational essence, as you’ll see below, is like your GPS that takes you right where you want to be.
So we are finally ready to take the trip. Ready?
There are only really two parts involved in traveling that thought highway: focusing on that Goal seed, and not traveling the highways of resistance and negativity you are so used to.
Let’s take them in order.
Tending the Goal Seed
This part is the easiest by far.
All it requires is that you regularly access the vibration of the goal.
That means, in essence, that you just need to feel the emotion that is at the core of the goal.
Again, this emotion is the reason you actually want the goal in the first place. You believe that if you get this goal, you’ll have this emotion, and therefore be happy.
We’re just turning that around by having the emotion now, which will attract the goal, which by that point is only icing on the cake, because you should already be happy.
Let’s take the emotions of freedom, fun, and joy that I mentioned above.
You don’t even have to feel freedom, fun and joy in the context of money. You just need to feel those general feelings within yourself.
Where in life are you feeling fun right now?
Access that emotion and just be there.
Eventually, you’ll be able to access the feeling of freedom in regards to money.
A simple question to ask might be, “What would it feel like if I felt freedom with money?”
Recently I did something similar. I wanted effortless abundance, not abundance I had to work for. So I asked, “What would it feel like if I had effortless money, which just flowed in endlessly?”
I didn’t have too much resistance, so was able to feel that pretty easily. And, in a short time, I did start to get effortless money.
When you access that emotion, it will tune you to that vibration, which will inevitably attract the goal. It’s as simple as that.
So I’d suggest doing this daily, as much as is fun for you. Remember, if there’s any feeling of work involved with this, then you’re trying too hard. You certainly don’t want to be accessing a vibration of hard work and effort, do you? 🙂
Just access the general emotions at first. As you do this, more and more details will fill in. Don’t go looking for them, but just let them come to you.
For example, one day as you’re accessing the vibration of fun, you’ll start thinking about all the ways you could have fun with money. You might think about places you want to travel, and how much fun you would have there.
If at any point it triggers resistance, then back off to the general feeling of fun. But if you just let the details come naturally, then this shouldn’t happen.
As those details fill in naturally, that’s how you know you are getting closer to the manifestation itself. You’ll start seeing signs in your everyday life, and then the goal itself will come.
Sometimes only part of it will come at first. For instance, if you’re accessing the vibration of freedom in regards to money, perhaps you’ll discover that one of your bills is a lot cheaper than usual. That feels more like freedom than what you had going on before, so it’s a positive manifestation.
The more you acknowledge that and keep accessing the same vibration, now with evidence of its presence, the more doors will start opening and you’ll see it everywhere.
As long as you are accessing that feeling, you can’t get it wrong. Within a matter of days, or weeks at the most, things will start showing up in outer reality which feel like freedom, or fun, or joy, or whatever your goal seed was.
Avoiding Your Practiced Thought Highways
Now it might not always go so easily. You have a practiced vibration of lack, or whatever the feeling of the unwanted is for you. It could be lack, it could be loneliness, it could be struggle, etc.
But you traveled on that thought highway for quite a while, and sometimes you’ll find yourself traveling that route again just out of habit.
So when this happens, you really have to have the self-awareness to catch it early and turn things around.
Firstly, don’t beat yourself up for following old patterns. It happens. In fact, I’ve never once seen a client who hasn’t had that happen.
So similarly to step 1, make peace with where you are. Accept that you are practicing some old thoughts, and that’s okay.
Now this post is already long enough, and so I can’t give a whole treatise on dealing with resistance.
But I can give some general advice.
The best advice I can give is to find a thought that feels just a bit better.
Remember earlier, in step 1, when I said that when you make peace with what is, you’ll feel a sense of relief?
That sense of relief is the sign that you are headed in the right direction, traveling on your thought highway to your goal.
Similarly, if you can find a thought that feels a bit better than the negative thought you were just thinking, you know when you get it right because you’ll feel that same sense of relief.
Even just making peace with the fact that you are where you are, thinking this negative thought right now, could be enough to shift you out of it.
But if it’s not, then find something that feels a bit better.
So if you are thinking about how you’re never going to have money, for instance, what could be a thought that feels a bit better?
Here are some ideas:
- “At least I do have some money.”
- “I’m not the poorest person in the world. There are people who have less.”
- “I was able to afford food to eat today.”
- “Things generally work out for me.”
- “Maybe money isn’t so easy right now, but I’m sure it can probably get easier in time.”
You get the idea. Apply the same method to your own goal, whatever it is.
You’re just taking less pressure off of the resistance. You’re letting it be okay, and finding other ways to see the same situation.
Remember earlier when I said that every part of life has both wanted and unwanted? The same thing applies here. While you’re focusing on the unwanted, the wanted certainly exists as well, if you look for it.
My usual recommendation of mindfulness will also work here, but I know that can be hard for some people, so I am giving alternatives.
The Work of Byron Katie is also a great technique for dealing with resistance, but that’s a topic for another day.
However, if you just find a few thoughts that feel a bit better, pretty soon you’ll be back on the positive end. And even if you can’t get there today, just even feeling a bit less negative is still progress, and you should celebrate that.
Arriving at the Destination
So that’s all you have to do. Discover where you are, and where you want to be. Then, make peace with where you are now, find the goal seed of that manifestation, and close the gap.
The whole thing should be effortless. Be sure you’re not applying too much pressure. The Taoist idea of wu-wei, or non-doing, applies as always. The less effort, the more you accomplish.
Be easy on yourself, and simply turn in the direction of feeling a bit better.
That relief I mentioned above is the first road sign that you are traveling down the thought highway to your goal.
The second road sign is an increase in positive emotions, in general but especially in regards to the goal.
And the third road sign is seeing external signs that tell you your goal is close.
As you see more and more of these road signs, you’ll know that you’re getting closer and closer to your destination, until it finally arrives.
But recognizing those road signs is vitally important. Most of the manifestation process happens entirely within yourself. You only know you’re on the right track through the greater prevalence of positive thoughts and emotions.
Just as when you’re driving on the highway, you only know you’re headed in the right direction by seeing the signs that tell you what’s coming up, so your manifestation is the same way.
If you’re seeing more negative thoughts and emotions, and then more negative manifestations, you know that you’re on the wrong highway. So you apply the above process, get back on track, and will soon see the positive signs that tell you you’re headed in the right direction.
How About You?
Now it’s your turn. Which thought highway have you been traveling? How can you get on track to get on the thought highway towards your goals? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
Note: On January 2, I am re-running the five day money manifesting challenge. We had such great results last time that I wanted to run it over again.
This challenge, just as before, is completely free, and will show you the basics of how to manifest greater abundance into your life.
If you already took the challenge before, I recommend still taking it, and even inviting a friend if you can. The content will be a bit different, and who doesn’t want more money, anyway? 🙂
