You already know the importance of focusing on what you want, not on what you don’t want. This is Law of Attraction 101.
But the big question is, how do you actually do that?
My thoughts were drawn to this subject recently, because I found this awesome quote from Abraham-Hicks:
Creators that create worlds are not trying to fix problems. Creators that create worlds are defining what is not wanted for a split second, and feeling what IS wanted for eternity.
As such, this post will overlap a little with those posts, but not much. I will also be taking the discussion to another level entirely. Namely, once the unwanted, or what you might call the “problem” (though I hope you’re not calling it a problem anymore), is identified, how do we then shift our focus to the wanted, and thereby create the reality we want to create?
Creators Aren’t Trying to Fix Problems
In this quote, Abraham is saying exactly the same as I’ve been saying recently: creators aren’t trying to fix problems.
You should already know this if you’ve already read those previous posts. But in case you haven’t, I will recap here, anyway.
Creators aren’t trying to fix problems because to a creator, there are no problems.
Problems are what I call ego stories.
The ego is that part of yourself that believes in complete separation, and if untrained, will often believe in the need for fear, guilt, anxiety, etc. The ego thinks it is unsafe, and so it will try to manipulate circumstances around it to force that feeling of safety from the outside.
Your higher self simply does not see problems where you see problems. When you see the world with the vision of your higher self, you see everything as perfectly what it is.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t create your own reality. Of course, that is what you are here to do. But, when you are seeing a world full of problems, you feel the need to push against those problems, which simply won’t work.
So as long as you are seeing your current situation as a “problem”, that persistent attention to the “problem” will perpetuate it in your reality, and possibly even cause it to get bigger.
Your higher self loves where you are now, and whatever you are doing now. It does not see problems, or mistakes, or wrong paths.
I discussed in my podcast about how to solve problems that there is problem consciousness, and there is creation consciousness.
Problem consciousness is synonymous with ego consciousness: the insistence on seeing problems in your reality.
Creation consciousness is synonymous with the vision of your higher self: seeing all things as perfect as they are, right here and right now.
To be a “creator that creates worlds,” as Abraham puts it, means to see the world through creation consciousness. This is the only way to be successful at creating your own reality as you want it to be, not because you are trying to solve problems, but because you want to create for fun, for enjoyment, for the sake of creating.
Developing Creation Consciousness
So, if you are currently approaching the world from problem consciousness, then you want to move into creation consciousness.
In order to do this, we need to discover the essential difference between problem consciousness and creation consciousness.
Of course, the first difference is that problem consciousness perceives problems in the world, while creation consciousness does not.
But there is more here to be uncovered.
The essential difference is this: problem consciousness focuses on the unwanted, while creation consciousness focuses on the wanted.
When you are believing in problems, you are focusing on everything you don’t want in life, and making these unwanted elements into “problems”.
When you shift to creation consciousness, you begin to see the wanted aspects of life. The unwanted are details that you barely notice, and then turn your attention away from them.
You realize that when you focus on the unwanted, you are creating the unwanted.
In my post on designing your perfect life with the law of attraction, I mentioned that I tell my clients, as well as the students of the law of attraction course to ask themselves this one question: “Do I want more like what I am focusing on right now?”
Because, that is exactly what you will get: more like what you are focusing on right now.
If that thing is a perceived “problem”, then you’ll get more problems that feel like that.
If you are focusing on something wanted, however, then you’ll get more wanted things.
The solution is so obvious, yet often hard for people to implement: stop focusing on the unwanted!
“But, but, but,” people often object, “this problem is really serious!”
Yeah, because you’re putting so much attention on it. Stop doing that! 😛
If you only realized that your focus was the key to deliberate reality creation, you would be so much pickier about what you allowed yourself to focus on. You must learn to become the gatekeeper of your mind, only allowing that which you desire to enter your reality. How? By persistently focusing on the wanted.
Cool, so you know now that problem consciousness just creates more problems for you to worry about. And, you know that in order to enter creation consciousness, you need to persistently focus on the wanted, and see all things as perfect as they are right now.
But, how on earth do you do this?
The key to this whole post is in the Abraham quote I mentioned in the beginning of this post.
So far, I have explained the first sentence: “Creators that create worlds are not trying to fix problems.”
We know this is so, again, because “creators that create worlds” don’t even see the existence of problems. They see the world with creation consciousness, not problem consciousness.
But now, let’s focus on the second sentence of the quote: “Creators that create worlds are defining what is not wanted for a split-second, and feeling what IS wanted for eternity.”
This is a perfect definition of the technique Abraham refers to as pivoting, and it is a very useful technique for doing exactly this.
What is pivoting?
It is essentially to notice when you are focused on something unwanted, and immediately shift your focus to the wanted, instead.
It is to realize the power of your focus, and to use that power to always focus on the wanted.
It is to never give extended attention to the unwanted, but only use it to inform you of where your resistance is right now.
So for example, if the thought comes up that you have a lack of money, you immediately notice this thought.
Once you notice it, you immediately shift your focus to the wanted. Perhaps you think about the money you do have. Perhaps you think of how it would feel to have more money.
Either way, you shift your focus to something that feels better than where you were focused before.
And by shifting your focus to this new, better-feeling topic, the power of that focus will then bring more like that into your reality.
Defining What Is Not Wanted for a Split Second
So let’s take each part of this sentence.
The first part is that “creators that create worlds” define what is not wanted for a split second.
How do you define what is not wanted?
Easy: by developing a moment-by-moment awareness of your vibration.
In other words, by listening to your own emotional guidance system.
Remember, when you are focused on something unwanted, your emotional guidance system will respond with a negative feeling.
This might be worry, fear, frustration, anger, powerlessness, depression, anxiety, or any number of other emotions.
But, any time you are feeling negative, even if just a little negative, this is a sign that you are focused on the unwanted.
Coming back to the money example above, when you think about money and feel bad, you are probably thinking about:
- How little of it you have
- How many bills you have to pay
- How much those bills are
- How much debt you’re in
When this happens, this is actually a great thing.
You are doing exactly what Abraham says here: you are defining what is not wanted.
Now where most people go wrong is in the next part: defining what is not wanted for a split second.
Most people want to keep their focus on that not wanted.
Most people want to obsess and worry about this not wanted.
And therefore, most people are attracting more of what is not wanted.
Remember, whatever you focus on, the law of attraction will bring you more of that.
But with the technique of pivoting, the trick is to only focus on the not wanted for a “split second”.
The moment you’ve defined the not wanted, you immediately do what the quote says next:
Feeling What Is Wanted for Eternity
The practice of pivoting, as I have said, is to briefly discover the unwanted, and then immediately shift your focus to the wanted.
But notice here the word “feel”.
It is not enough to think about what is wanted.
You must feel the wanted, as well.
The Universe responds to emotions, not thoughts. So, it’s not good enough if you simply think about your manifestation, but don’t give any attention to the emotion behind it.
When you shift to the wanted, it has to be emotionally.
For instance, if you are worrying about money, and then realize what you are doing and attempt to shift to the wanted, you might think things like this:
- More and more money is flowing into my life
- Money is easy to earn
- I am effortlessly paying off my debt
These are great-sounding words. But, you could very well be thinking or speaking these words, and still feeling that sense of worry and anxiety.
The words have no power on their own, no matter how many times you repeat them to yourself.
You have to find a way to actually feel like what the wanted feels like to you.
In other words, in the money example, what does more money feel like?
You don’t have to get it perfectly right away. The goal here is that you feel better.
However, the goal here is to notice when you are focusing on the unwanted, and immediately shift your focus to the wanted: to feel what is wanted for eternity.
Of course, it won’t really be for eternity. You will have some more contrast arise at some point.
But, you just repeat the same process. You realize you are focused on the unwanted, and immediately shift your focus to the wanted.
The Question That Will Help You Instantly Focus on the Wanted
There’s a simple question that can help in doing this.
That question is: “Now I know what I don’t want. What is it I do want?”
Let’s say you are worrying about money. So you ask yourself: “Now I know what I don’t want (lack of money). What is it I do want?”
And, you let that answer come to you, in the form of good feelings and thoughts.
You might want freedom. You might want security. You might want fun.
What is it you want?
Or if it is a relationship manifestation, you ask yourself: “Now I know what I don’t want (loneliness). What is it I do want?”
You might want companionship. You might want attraction. You might want love.
Once you ask yourself the question, allow yourself to focus on those feelings—on the feeling of the wanted.
This will cause these feelings to get bigger, and therefore manifestations that feel like this will begin to enter your reality.
Pivoting to Your New Reality
Becoming the creator of your own reality takes deliberate focus.
It takes realizing the power of your focus, and noticing what you are creating from moment-to-moment.
Remember, whatever you are focusing on now, or more precisely whatever the feeling of what you are focusing on now, you are creating more like that in your reality.
There’s nothing you need to do. No switches to flip or levers to pull. Whatever you are focusing on, you are creating more of that right now.
This technique of pivoting will help you to deliberately redirect that focus in the way suggested by the Abraham quote.
First, you define what is not wanted, by paying attention to your emotional guidance system. When that emotional guidance system warns you that you are focusing on something not wanted, you have defined what is not wanted in that very moment. Nothing more is required.
Now, in a split second, you shift your focus to the feeling of what is wanted.
When you remain in this new place, your manifestations will begin to shift in your life, to reflect your new focus.
It’s really just about what you choose to focus on. Do you choose to focus on the unwanted in your life? Or, do you instead choose to deliberately focus on the wanted, and thereby create more like that?
